Of the many gay and lesbian couples fighting for the right to marry in the courts, April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse are listed first in the case that the Supreme Court will hear this spring. DeBoer and Rowse, who live in Hazel Park, Mich., want to marry so they can both be adoptive parents to the four children they are raising together. The women, both nurses, stagger their hospital shifts so they can take turns at home with the kids, ages 2 to 6, two of whom have special needs.
