For four consecutive years hate crimes have risen, reaching the highest level in a decade.
According to a study conducted by Brian Levin, James J. Nolan, and John David Reitzel, using new police data from 2017 collected ahead of the FBI totals, there were 1,038 hate crimes in the nation's 10 largest cities showing an increase of 12 percent over the last year.
For years Los Angeles has seen high hate crime rates with sharp double-digit annual increases. A recent study conducted by Brian Levin, Kevin Grisham, and John David Reitzel, revealed a 6.8 percent decline while violent hate crimes rose by 8.3 percent in the first half of 2018.
